															Big Horn Sheep Reintroduction Program
The Desert Bighorn Sheep, a symbol of resilience and adaptability, holds a rich history in Chihuahua, Mexico. Once facing the brink of extinction due to overhunting and habitat loss, conservation efforts have successfully revived their populations in the rugged mountain ranges and arid canyons of Rancho El Yunque. These magnificent creatures, known for their impressive, curved horns and agile movements, now thrive in their natural habitat, serving as a testament to the importance of preservation and stewardship of wildlife. Their presence in the Chihuahuan desert is not only a reminder of the region’s ecological diversity but also a source of pride and inspiration for the owners of Rancho El Yunque, conservationists and nature enthusiasts alike. Mexico’s bighorn sheep reintroduction program is a large-scale, multi-state conservation effort aimed at restoring populations of the desert bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis mexicana) to their historic range. The program involves government agencies, private landowners, indigenous communities, and conservation organizations.
